A MUSICIAN who grew up in Oxford has made it to the final of Czechoslovakia's Got Talent.

Daniel Zappi won a 'golden buzzer' and an automatic place in the final of the Czech version of Britain's Got Talent after impressing judges with an emotional performance on his guitar.

A clip of the audition was posted on network Television JOJ's youtube account on Saturday and has been viewed more than 350,000 times.

The musician's father is Flavio Zappi, an Italian ex-pro cyclist behind Zappi's Bike Cafe, now the Handle Bar Café and Kitchen, in St Michael's Street and still lives in the city.

On his Facebook page Daniel Zappi describes himself as an Anglo-Italian singer-songwriter adding: "For the last ten years or so, as well as directing youth theatre productions and teaching drama, I've been writing songs and performing in small clubs around Europe."

Mr Zappi moved to Prague from Oxford with his wife and son in 2016 and started teaching drama at a school in the Czech Republic capital.

He said: "It was the right move, as we absolutely love this city.

"Since leaving the UK, I've become a dad again (another boy!), played lots of gigs and collaborated with some amazing musicians here.

"So far on this journey, I've written two albums (both very different from one another) and two acoustic E.Ps, which I'd love you to listen to.

"I've also become a better changer of nappies, constructor of sand-castles and swinger of swings."

Czechoslovakia's Got Talent is now in its eighth season and is set to crown a winner next month.
