FALMOUTH and Truro MP Sarah Newton says that railway investment plans will "make a real difference to the community" in Cornwall.

Mrs Newton has welcomed the inclusion of the South West Rail Resilience Programme and Western Rail Access to Heathrow in Government’s £48 billion rail improvement programme

The announcement from the Transport Secretary confirmed that track from Parsons Tunnel to Teignmouth and the Central Tunnels Section at Dawlish, as well as Western Rail Access to Heathrow, are to be included in the largest rail modernisation programme since the Victorian times.

Mrs Newton said: “I am delighted that the Conservatives are prioritising the scheme at Dawlish and access to Heathrow as part of our plans to upgrade the nation’s railways – this will transform rail services for local people and make a real difference to the community here in Truro and Falmouth.

“Fast, reliable trains are vital, not just for boosting local growth, but to making areas like ours attractive places to live and start a business. Support for this project will be welcomed around the constituency as it will deliver improvements for local people travelling north – including to Heathrow airport.

“This Government is committed to ensuring no part of this country is left behind, and no business is held back, because of poor infrastructure. We will level up opportunities and renew the ties that bind our communities together.”
