ANYONE who has ever been inspired to throw their own large-scale festival, event or show in the city could have their ideas brought to reality by the city council.

Oxford City Council is calling for event submissions from organisers who would like to host a large-scale event at South Park in 2020.

The park, which is managed by the council, has the ability to host large events (of more than 500 people) each year, in an area with attractive parkland and views across the city which is close to the city centre, residential and student areas.

So far this year, South Park has hosted the Foodies Festival and Cancer Research UK’s Pretty Muddy, and it will host Oxford Round Table’s Fireworks display. In previous years the park has also hosted popular music festivals.

The city council is accepting applications for event ideas, but said it welcomes events which are environmentally friendly, encourage healthy lifestyles or promote equality and understanding between communities.

Applications should include:

l Detailed information about the planned event

l Proposed dates

l Predicted attendance

l Activities on offer

l How it can promote Oxford’s communities, while protecting the site’s archaeologically-significant ridges and furrows.

Cabinet member for culture and city centre Mary Clarkson said: "We enjoy seeing all kinds of fantastic festivals, shows and events every year in South Park, set against the iconic backdrop of Oxford’s spires. Year on year we welcome new ideas and visions for large-scale events, which will bring together and celebrate Oxford’s diverse communities. We look forward to receiving your submissions.”
