Diwali celebrations will be launched at the Queensmere Observatory in Slough this weekend - with starburst sculptures decorated by three of the town's schools.
Pupils at Wexham Court Primary School, Montem Academy and St Mary’s CE Primary School were given starburst sculptures and invited to decorate them with motifs and designs inspired by Diwali.
This activity was to be incorporated into their arts curriculum and the starbursts will be on display until Wednesday, October 30.
Arts Classes Groups will be popping up on the mall on Sunday, October 27 from 11am to 3pm to provide a drop-in session of traditional arts and crafts including candle decorating and rangoli sand art. Shoppers are also invited to have Henna designs painted by a professional artist, in return for a contribution to the Centre’s chosen charities Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Alexander Devine children's hospice.
Chris Shaw, Centre Manager at Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre, said: “We are excited to be embracing Diwali with a wonderful range of free, fun activities for all the family. The starburst sculptures that the students have designed are very important to us; we wanted to provide an opportunity to showcase the talent of the young people from Slough and this really shines through in their amazing Diwali inspired sculptures.”
