A COFFEE morning to raise funds for a vital Shropshire charity has taken place in Oswestry.

Oswestry Town Council organised the event on Friday morning to raise funds for the Lingen Davies Cancer Fund, a charity which is currently supporting one of the council's former employees, Les Roberts.

Admin officer for the town council, Louise Humphries, said that the coffee morning was a 'leaving present' for Les who did not want a fuss after he left because of illness.

"We've held the coffee morning as a sort of leaving present for Les," Louise said.

"He didn't want a fuss or a present so we've done this to raise money for the charity helping him instead."

And Les' wife, Janet, who was at the event selling raffle tickets for many prizes up for grabs, said that her husband had left the town council on his birthday because of his cancer diagnosis.

"He didn't want any fuss at all so he said to me let's just raise money for Lingen Davies then," she said.

"I'd like to say thanks to everyone for all the prizes, cakes and help given in organising the event."
