As it is TVP employ around 4,000 police officers, so the new recruits will bring about a five per cent increase.

Thames Valley Police covers 2,200 square miles across Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire.

It is thought that around 600 new roles will be created in the force over the next few years as part of the new prime minister's pledge to roll out 20,000 officers.

He made the promise as one of his key commitments during the conservative leadership race.

The elected-head of the police, the crime commissioner Anthony Stansfeld, has previously said the new officers will 'make good' the cuts to TVP over the last eight years.
