Man admits repeatedly flouting court order by stealing from parents

Alexander Burrows appeared via videolink at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

He was at court facing a string of charges of harassment by breaching a restraining order as well as one count of burglary.

The 52-year-old, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to the burglary at Linkside Avenue, Oxford, carried out on August 30 and stealing a laptop therein.

He also admitted four counts of acting in breach of a restraining order.

On those offences, he was seen leaving and re-entering an address at Linkside Avenue despite being ordered not to on August 21.

Burrows was again caught inside the banned address on August 27 and later caught entering and leaving two days later.

The final restraining order breach relates to the burglary which was carried out on the same day on August 30.

After the guilty pleas had been entered his defence barrister John Bryant asked for a pre-sentence report as well as a psychiatric report before sentencing.

The court heard that Burrows had studied in Paris before moving to France for 13 years where he later had a 'complete breakdown'.

Mr Bryant said his client was then diagnosed with bipolar disorder and said the later crimes committed in Oxford were all offences against his parents.

Presiding Jude Nigel Daly agreed to adjourn the case so that reports could be prepared ahead of the final sentencing hearing.

He said: "It is obvious to me from reading the circumstances [...] that there is something in the background here, something which may indicate he has mental health issues."

Sentencing was adjourned for the National Probation Service and health services to prepare separate reports on Burrows.

He will next appear at Oxford Crown Court for sentencing on November 19.

Burrows was remanded in custody in the meantime.
