A REWARD of up to £100,000 is being offered for the return of the golden toilet which was stolen from Blenheim Palace last month.

Police are still searching for the artwork, made by Maurizio Cattelan, valued at $6m (£4.8m), which was stolen in a raid on September 14.

Now, Fine Art Specie Adjusters (FASA), Blenheim Palace's insurance company,  said up to £100,000 could be paid out as a reward for the safe return of the golden toilet.

Philip Austin of FASA said the reward was a way of inciting someone to come forward with information or even the toilet itself.

Mr Austin said: "It is only payable to someone which comes forward and the information is acceptable to the police."

The terms of the reward are that someone safely returns the loo, leading to an arrest.

He added: "We have had a lot of crank calls as you can imagine but we have had one postive lead which has been passed on to the police."

The fully functioning toilet, named America, was part of an art exhibition in a wood-panelled room at the 18th-century estate, and its theft caused significant flood damage as it had been plumbed in for visitors to use.

Yesterday, Thames Valley Police released CCTV images of a vehicle believed to have been involved in the theft of a golden toilet valued at around £4.8 million from Blenheim Palace.
