OSWESTRY businesses have spilled the beans on the new reusable cups set to be rolled out this month.

In a bid to be a more sustainable town, a number of coffee shops and cafes have signed up to use the soon-to-be released, One Oswestry Cups.

Funding has now been granted by Oswestry Business Improvement District (BID) following a similar launch in Shrewsbury, and the colourful coffee cups are set to be launched on Friday, October 11.

One business that will be taking part in the 'green' scheme is Fat Rabbit, in Bailey Street, and owner, Linda Clark is excited for its launch.

She said: "I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to be involved in it.

"It's no extra cost to businesses and it cuts down the effects on the environment.

"It's affordable – you get your £1 back if you want it so it's just like you're borrowing the cup.

"And it helps create a community feeling by improving communication between businesses in Oswestry.

"It's just a really great scheme which is aiming to help the environment by reducing single-use plastics."

Owner of Liar Liar in Albion Hill, Tom Jones – who was key to the introduction of the scheme – is also looking forward to the fully-recyclable cups hitting coffee shop counters across the town.

"It's a really well-designed cup, they look nice too," he said.

"And regardless of the eco side of it all, it's good for businesses to work collaboratively to create a business community.

"The response on social media so far has been great and most of the feedback we've had in general has been good.

"We've had lots of people enquiring about it – some even from places like Bala and Chester hoping to start a similar scheme in their own towns.

"We've got 550 cups going into circulation in the town from October 11, and we've got another order going in soon due to demand.

"We're looking forward to getting started now."
