TOWN councillors will discuss the proposed location for electric vehicle (EV) charging points in Oswestry.

After the Development and Planning Committee meeting in The Guildhall on Wednesday, a Special Meeting of the Town Council will take place for councillors to discuss the placing of vehicle charging points in Oswestry Central Car Park.

Following a site visit with town clerk, Arren Roberts, in July, EV charging specialists, Instavolt, chose the car park as it offered 'the most practical solution' but it was noted that disabled parking bays would need to be relocated.

In the meeting's agenda it states that 'some alternative disabled parking spaces will need to be found' and that there is likely to be the 'net loss of one car parking space'.

It also states that 'discussions are ongoing with regards to who pays for any additional ancillary work'.

Committee members will be asked to formally approve Instavolt's proposed site so that work on the project can progress.

After that, the next step is for the council's solicitor – who is reviewing the lease – to bring the proposals, along with legal advice, for councillors' consideration.

The risks associated with the project have been raised previously and committee members will consider these against the benefits that the charging points could bring.

As soon as the location is approved, the provider can progress with planning consents and with its application to the Direct Network Operator for connection to the distribution network.
