POLICE have launched a murder investigation after a man and woman were found dead at a tower block in Oxford last night.

Thames Valley Police were called to Foresters Tower in Wood Farm at about 9.15pm last night after reports that a man had fallen from an upper floor of the block of flats. 

This afternoon the force issued an appeal for witnesses, urging anyone who saw anything to come forward.

This morning there were reports of a large police presence in the area. 

The high-rise tower sits just on the corner of Pether Road and Wood Farm Road, near Headington.

The man, aged 37, died at the scene.

Police then searched the block of flats and a woman was found on the fourth floor with severe neck injuries. 

The woman, aged 42, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Bosley of Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit, said: “Following an incident last night, a man and a woman were found dead at Foresters Tower in suspicious circumstances.

“As a result, a murder investigation has been launched and a scene-watch has been put in place at Foresters Tower while investigations continue.

“Although we are in the early stages of this investigation, we believe that the two people who have died are known to each other.

“Police will remain at the scene for some time.

“A second scene-watch is in place at Bonar Road in Headington.

“The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.

“We have not yet been able to inform the man’s next of kin.

“I appreciate the concern that this will cause in the local community, but I would like to re-assure the public that we believe there is no wider threat and that we are not looking for anybody else in connection with this incident.
