A MAJOR plan for new housing and employment space will need to wait after councillors said they want more details about affordable housing.

Oxford North would include 480 new homes and provide space for 4,500 jobs on land near the A44 and A40.

It is proposed by Thomas White Oxford (TWO), a company owned by St John’s College, Oxford.

But Oxford City councillors said they want more details about whether a planned 35 per cent of affordable housing is the most the company can provide.

The plan has already been allocated £10m in government funding.

Work to establish whether more affordable housing could be included will be done in between two and four weeks.

The plan is then expected be taken back to the city council’s West Area planning committee for approval.

A spokeswoman for TWO said: “TWO notes the deferral of its planning application for Oxford North. TWO will continue to work with Oxford City Council’s planning officers to provide any information that is required to ensure that Oxford North can return to committee at the soonest possible date.”
