A TOWN will see uniformed personnel march through its streets this Sunday.

People are being urged to line the Market Square in Bicester for the mayor Civic Parade.

It will begin with a service at St Edburg’s Church at 11am, before it is led by 2507 (Bicester) Squadron ATC band, leaving the church at 12pm.

It will wind down the Causeway and around the Market Square where the mayor Jason Slaymaker and the Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire Tim Stephenson OBE will take the salute.

This year’s procession also includes soldiers from 1 Regiment RLC, Scouts and Guides from across the town, and members of the Royal British Legion.

Oxford Mail:

The annual event has traditionally taken place in June to welcome the new town mayor, but this year Bicester Town Council has made the decision to move it to September to encourage more local groups to take part.

Mayor Jason Slaymaker said: “We hope by moving the date of the civic parade from summer to autumn will allow more of them to join in.

“The parade promises to be a wonderful spectacle, with young and old joining together to march from the church to the Market Square.

“I think the Civic Parade is a great opportunity for the town’s many uniformed groups to show off to the rest of the residents and enjoy the attention. For those who don’t belong to one, it’s a great opportunity to come and watch and cheer them on.”

Road closures will be in place from 6am on Sunday.
