SOME shoppers in Oxford are ready to trust robots with their shopping, their security and even their weddings a survey has revealed.

A UK-wide survey called Finding the One by behavioural futurists Nadia and William Higham included 77 people in Oxford and asked how comfortable people would be using personal digital shopping assistants, which could remember data on previous purchases they had made and help with future buys.

The report, commissioned by cinch, estimates that digital assistants will soon be commonplace, and its results include that 27 per cent of Oxford residents are happy for 3D body scanners to hold measurements and personal info for the next time they shop, and that 26 per cent are happy to have personalised online ads.

Thirty per cent of those surveyed in Oxford would trust a robot to protect them from intruders, while 26 per cent would let them choose their car.

Eight per cent of people interviewed in Oxford also said they would let an app or a robot plan their wedding.

The futurists believe that, aside from helping to make people’s lives easier, these online personal shoppers will also help people shop better.

Nadia Higham says: “In addition to a more personalised shopping experience, there is a growing demand for more fun and excitement in retail.”
