AN OUTDOOR swimming pool, ‘air dome’ tennis courts and spa could be built as part of a new health club and business park proposed for Bicester.

As part of a development 'boom' in Bicester, Albion Land has tabled plans to build the 23,400sqm development on the approach to Bicester off the A41, close to Bicester Park and Ride.

Developers have submitted an application to create a business park 'Catalyst Bicester' which will include offices, laboratories, research and development, and manufacturing space.

There will also be a David Lloyd gym, open to residents, and will feature indoor and outdoor racquet courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a cafe, fitness studios, sports hall, gym, and a spa.

David Lloyd Leisure new openings director Bruce Gardner said: "Bicester is undergoing a boom in its development and so makes a very attractive location for us to open our 101th club in the UK.

"We hope that the new club, with its premium family-friendly facilities will prove to be a welcome addition to this vibrant region."

The new development would be completely separate to the previously approved business park planned for vacant land next to Tesco Bicester, and instead will sit back from the A41 in between Bicester Avenue Garden Centre and the Holiday Inn currently being built nearby.

As part of the plans - submitted as two separate applications - developers also said, if approved, it would result in the closure and demolition of Wendlebury Poultry Farm.

Albion Land director Simon Parsons said the plans are a 'game-changer' for the town and respond to demand for a mixed business community with the Oxford-Cambridge Arc.

Oxford Mail:

He said: "We have worked with existing high-tech businesses in the area to understand their needs. The proposals have been designed to ensure we accommodate both current Bicester occupiers and new knowledge-based companies to the area to provide a place to grow.

"The proposals accord with the Cherwell Local Plan and Catalyst Bicester will be the first development of its kind in the town."

The director goes on to say Albion Land is 'committed to investing in Bicester' as it tables its fourth major development for the town, he added: "Bicester offers a strong, well-connected location, a ready-made workforce and significant combined rent and business rates savings compared to similar south east buildings.

"We will provide a desirable environment and well-designed buildings so exciting and new companies can thrive within The Arc."

The creation of a new roundabout has also been tabled between Vendee Drive and Wendlebury Road.

The plans show the site including walking and cycling connectivity to the town centre and nearby retail park, plus tree planting, landscaping and an ecological wetland area. The wetland area will eventually be managed by the Banbury Ornithological Society.

Plans will now be considered by officers and people are able to submit comments online before October 3.
