A BICESTER barbershop has been named among the best in the country.

The team from Andy’s Barbers went to Sussex armed with their combs and scissors to fight off the stiff competition and bag a top British title.

Staff took to the main stage of the national Master Barber Awards 2019 earlier this month to show off their skills.

The group impressed judges and managed to bag Barbershop of the Year 2019.

A post from the judges online said: “A truly amazing shop with an amazing team.

“A huge Congratulations.”

Owner Andy Willis said: “We are absolutely delighted to be flying the flag for Oxfordshire and more specifically my hometown of Bicester.

“We know the competition is high and so we were so surprised and delighted to win the award and it’s given all our team a real lift - there’s such a buzz about the shop.

“I’m always proud to be a barber but I feel particularly proud right now.”

The team at the Pioneer Square barbers were also runners-up in the Team of the Year category.

Mr Willis went along with some six other barbers as they all took to the stage of the show at the Arora Hotel in Crawley on September 8.

The team showed off their superb shaving skills, technical trims, and clean cuts on stage in a bid to show how a good team can work together.

Andy’s Barbers first opened in Sheep Street, Bicester, in January 2008, before its successes meant the shop had to move to bigger premises in Pioneer Square in August 2017.

The barbershop hosts five savvy barbers who have gained ‘Master Barber’ recognition, and Ryan Robinson has been recognised for his talent and dedication to barbering to be awarded one of the highest accreditations in the industry as a ‘highest merit award’.

Mr Willis added: “We’ve a brilliant barbering team and I hope we can help inspire anyone thinking of becoming a barber that hard work, skill and determination is recognised within our industry.”

Mr Willis has also transformed the former shop on Sheep Street into a gent’s groom room where they claim to be Oxfordshire’s only male grooming salon.
