A MAN accused of kicking a reveller in the head at the annual BunkFest told jurors he only struck the blow in a bid to stop the violence.

Tom Aldworth, of Miles East, Didcot, denies one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Prosecutors at Oxford Crown Court claim the 34-year-old kicked his victim Alan Lobb during a fight at Wallingford's Bunkfest music festival on September 2, 2017.

As his trial continued yesterday Aldworth took to the witness box to deny any wrong-doing.

He told jurors that the fight at the festival centred around Mr Lobb and Aldworth's friend and said that Mr Lobb was the aggressor.

He said: [My friend] had hold of Mr Lobb by the scruff of the neck, holding him off.

"He probably threw some [punches] back trying to protect himself.

"Later it did all end up on the ground. I was grabbed from behind, I guess by one of his [Mr Lobb's] friends, so I was taken to the floor.

"I picked myself off the floor, I heard my wife screaming get off him you are going to kill him.

"Obviously I went over to Mr Lobb obviously tried to kick him and that was it."

He said that he kicked Mr Lobb in order to 'get him off' his friend.

Asked about the level of force he used in the kick he said it was 'reasonable' and he denied intending to kick his alleged victim in the head.

He added that it was Mr Lobb who 'started' the fight and said he was the aggressor.

Speaking of the immediate aftermath he said that he 'froze' and he was 'shocked' at what had happened.

Earlier in the trial jurors were told that when Aldworth was interviewed by police he decided to provide no comment.

Explaining why he did not answer police questions he said he was simply following legal advice.

During cross examination it was put to Aldworth by prosecutors that there was 'no reason' for the kick and the blow had been 'an act of aggression,' an assertion he denied.

Aldworth denies the single count and the trial continues.
