FIRE CREWS cut a man out of his car after it rolled off the road in the middle of the night.

The firefighters arrived within minutes and had to secure the car after it landed upside down off Watlington Road near Blackbird Leys and Stadhampton.

At the time, one man was stuck in the car.

The two teams prized the car open to get him out using hydraulic spreading and cutting equipment.

It was the second incident to happen on Watlington Road - between Blackbird Leys and Stadhampton - this weekend, with fire crews rushing to the road to tackle a huge blaze.

A fire station manager says the 'complex incident' is a stark reminder that rural roads can be a 'deadly mix' of sharp bends and speedy straight roads.

Incident commander station manager Paul Webster said: "This was a complex incident for the Fire and Rescue service, the crews worked well to make the vehicle safe, in order that it did not roll anymore and quickly to get the driver out of the vehicle into the car of South Central Ambulance.

"Many of us feel safe when we are on a rural road, but it is often a deadly mix of long straight runs, where we can pick up speed, punctuated by sharp bends.

"If you aren't familiar with the road. I would recommend that drivers take care on the roads and allow extra time for journeys."

The driver was rushed to hospital by South Central Ambulance Service.

Thames Valley Police are investigating the cause of the incident.
