ASDA Penryn's Community Champion has handed over nearly £1,800 to good causes as she prepares to step down from the role.

Lisa Kirkpatrick is soon to leave the store after 14 years and has been Community Champion for the past three years.

This week she handed over £1,784 after helping out at school events, community fair days and charity fundraising events in July and August.

Representatives from Ponsanooth Community Association; Steve Hill, who raised money for the Sunrise Cancer Unit and representatives from Flushing School and the Carnon Downs Community went along to the store to be presented with cash.

Those who also benefitted, but unable to make it for the presentation, were Sasha Would’ve Loved it, Troon AFC and the Friends of Falmouth Primary Academy.

Also popping in were members of iSight Cornwall, who received their runner-up cheque of £200 and a few weeks ago Lisa presented the winners, Stroke of Luck stroke support group, with its £500 during one of its regular meetings held at the store.

Lisa said: "All of them stated how much of a difference these donations would make for their groups and were appreciative of the store’s and Asda Foundation support.

"For me it was an emotional occasion as this marked some of the last presentations I would make as I embark on a new adventure and prepare to leave Asda Penryn after having been there for 14 years.

"I shall be remaining in the background for now, on limited hours, to ensure that the community continue to get their donations, grants and queries answered, until a replacement for the role can be found.

"It has given me immense pleasure to be the Asda Community Champion over the past three years, not just because of all the donations I have been able to give, but meeting so many wonderful and dedicated members of this local area who sacrifice their time to ensure that local charities and great causes can keep on supporting those who need them.

"Whether it be dressing up to sell raffle tickets or sorting food in the foodbank, serving cups of tea or simply listening to the children read in a local school, I have enjoyed every moment of helping and supporting lots of groups in this incredible community."
