A MAN who took on the challenge to cycle from Lands End to John O Groats is believed to be the oldest man to complete it in the shortest time.
Brian Lewis, from Bicester, who is 81 and 207 days old, completed the iconic 1,000 mile ride in 14 days with a cycling time of around 87 hours.
He set off from Lands End on Saturday, August 11 and arrived in John O Groats on Saturday, August 24 as part of an organised tour through cycling company Pedal Britain.

The tour covers an average of 74 miles per day and climbs 55,000ft through all types of countryside including the steep terrain of the Lake District and peaks of Scotland.
Mr Lewis took up cycling again just five years ago after completing an exercise referral scheme recommended by his GP.
He is now passionate about promoting the benefits of the sport to maintain a positive physical and mental lifestyle. His mantra is “adventure not dementia”.

The cyclist said: “Cycling provides me with lots of positives in my life. It provides social interaction and keeps me fit in both body and mind which is why I am keen to encourage other older people to keep active in later life.
“I am so thrilled to have completed the Lands End to John O Groats route which I set myself as a personal challenge”.
