THERE has been a sharp increase in the number of people caught carrying a weapon in Oxford.

In July this year, 11 people were caught carrying a knife or a gun in central Oxford – data analysed from Police.UK can reveal.

Eight of the incidents happened around the town centre, two took place in Osney and one person was caught in New Hinksey.

In June, only two reports of people carrying a weapon were recorded by Thames Valley Police – a rise of 450 per cent in a month.

The year before, in July 2018, a total of three incidents were recorded – eight fewer than July this year.
