A 'HEROIC' Parkinson's sufferer from southern Oxfordshire has been hailed by fellow adventurer Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

Wantage's Alex Flynn is set for yet another impressive endurance feat, this time with a 1,250km race through various deserts and Antarctica.

Explorer Sir Ranulph has heaped praised on Mr Flynn, who was diagnosed with the condition in 2008, aged 36.

He said: “Rarely does one hear about such an inspirational and heroic Briton as Alex Flynn.

"The challenges he has successfully undertaken would be considered seriously hard by anyone’s standards and are independently worthy of recognition.”

Mr Flynn's latest adventurer – the 4 Deserts Grand Slam Plus – will involve racing unsupported on foot across some of the most inhospitable landscapes in the world, in the Namib Desert, Gobi Desert, the Great Caucasus of Georgia, the Atacama Desert and Antarctica.

Only eight people have ever completed the event but in 2020 Mr Flynn is set to be the first person with Parkinson’s disease to ever to attempt any 'RacingThePlanet' or 4 Deserts ultra event.

The charity champion, who backs Parkinson's UK and last year completed the 'phenomenal' Primal Quest through Canadian wilderness, said: “I want a cure for millions around the planet and hope you do too. Together we can make change happen.”
