USING some park and rides in Oxford has been made easier after the county council struck a deal with a business that helps motorists to pay without cash.

RingGo already works at Oxford City Council's three park and rides but is now operating at the county council's two others.

The company said that it means that about 500,000 people a year will be able to make use of their services.

Yvonne Constance, the county council's cabinet member for environment, said: “We want to encourage people to visit Oxford, with less congestion and parking hassle, and take their time enjoying the city.

“RingGo already provides quick, easy cashless parking on the city council park and ride car parks and with the new management arrangements with the city it makes sense to use the same service at Oxford Parkway and Thornhill too.”

The city council's park and rides are: Seacourt, off Botley Road; Redbridge, off Abingdon Road, and Pear Tree, off the A34 in North Oxford.

Peter O'Driscoll, the UK country manager for RingGo, said: “We have such a history of operating within Oxford, so it’s great to expand our work to cover county’s facilities too."

Mr O'Driscoll added: “We expect a dramatic increase in cashless uptake in these two new parking areas now that RingGo has taken over from the existing provider. Over 70 per cent of regular parkers across the UK are familiar with RingGo, having used it somewhere around the country. We expect them to use it here too.”
