PUPILS were able to put the nervous six-week wait to bed yesterday as they collected their A-Level results.

But as crowds of students and proud parents gathered at schools across the city to open the dreaded enveloped results letter, which ones fared best overall?

Here is the full list of how the city's schools got on, rated firstly by percentage of A*s to A and further below rated by total pass rates.

Magadalen College School, in Oxford, topped the rankings for highest percentage of pupils' achieving and A* to A.

Among those star pupils was Saania Jayawant who secured four A*s despite experiencing a family bereavement before the exams. She will go on to study Medicine at Cambridge University.

She said: "I’m just so relieved and excited to see what happens next."

Four Oxford schools - Magdalen College School, Oxford High School, d’Overbroeck’s, and St Edward's School - all reported 100 per cent pass rates.
