A MOTORCYCLIST has taken to filming "idiot" drivers who are turning a road safety chicane in Bicester into an accident blackspot.

Lee Lauer, 35, spent three months on crutches after crashing his Harley Davidson in Buckingham Road when four drivers ignored his right of way at the chicane.

After his crushed knee healed, Mr Lauer, of Willow Drive, Bicester, strapped a camera on his bike and visited the same spot.

He filmed three cars forcing their way through the chicane as he tried to make his way through. The third passes just yards from the front of his motorbike.

Now he has posted the footage, called 'Near Miss Idiot', on a website to warn other motorcyclists about the chicane. Click below to watch the video.

And the video has already been watched by thousands of online visitors.

He said: "Every day you hear tyres screeching as accidents are narrowly avoided. But I wasn't so lucky."

Mr Lauer, originally from California, was on his bike last year when three cars ignored his right of way as he tried to get through the chicane.

When a fourth tried to squeeze through the gap he swerved and slipped on gravel, causing his bike to fall and crush his knee.

The car did not stop and he took three months to recover.

In August, armed with a camera, Mr Lauer spotted three cars racing through the chicane as he tried to get through.

Luckily, this time he was not injured.

He added: "It's happened on my bike and at least three times in my car I've had to come to a complete stop.

"Almost every time I go through I see the same thing happening.

"They should just get rid of it.

"It makes no sense. There is a speed camera right there after all. It's a waste of time.

"I've had an accident there but at least once a week I've heard people who said they've nearly had an accident there."

Almost 2,500 people have watched the video on website YouTube.

One comment left by JayStiff says: "What you can't see is that this stupid traffic-calming measure is right before a speed camera, traffic lights AND two mini-roundabouts. It's a pointless waste of taxpayers' money."

Another online visitor, Paulieboy 36, commented: "That road sucks... they all do it."

A comment by Haldiruk reads: "This sort of this (sic) happens all the time on a motorbike.

"The car driver just does not care that the road signs clearly state that it is your right of way."

The chicane was installed by Oxfordshire County Council in 2003, along with another similar arrangement in Banbury Road to provide a traffic-calming 'gateway' into the town and encourage drivers to use the new £4.8m eastern ring road.

A year later, the scheme was criticised by scientist Dr David Palmer, who feared the chicane in Banbury Road would lead to more accidents.
