A YEAR-long project to expand a village school and preschool is set to start.

The works will carried out at St Blaise CE Primary School in Milton, near Didcot, and neighbouring Red Dragon Pre-School.

A letter sent to parents from the school said: "During the summer holiday the expansion of St Blaise and Red Dragon is due to begin.

"The project will take approximately one year and will enable Red Dragon to grow to 30 children and the school to expand to 210 pupils.

"The expansion will include the current playground being turned into a new block that will house four classrooms, two small rooms, a staffroom and small kitchen and a laundry room."

A bike shed and new entrance to the playground area will also be delivered, and the existing school building will gain a larger office and a kitchen that is double the current size.

The letter outlined 'significant changes' to the outside facilities including a new hardstanding play area, backfield, football pitch and forest school.

There will also be a new staffroom and internal reorganisation to create a bigger classroom and meeting room.

The letter added: "The building work will have an impact on all of us but we are hopeful that we can minimise disruption and enable us all to work and provide the best service that we can."

The project will be delivered in four phases, and the first phase should be in full swing when pupils return to school in September.

Oxfordshire County Council consulted on the expansion plan earlier this year.
