A MAN sexually abused an 11-year old girl as part of a five-year campaign of repeated child sex abuse, a court heard.

Prosecutors claim that Mitchell Purvis regularly abused his child victim on numerous occasions during the 1980s in Didcot.

From the witness box the alleged victim - who cannot be named for legal reasons - said she thought the sex was 'normal' and she saw him as her 'boyfriend'.

Purvis, 54, of Kynaston Road, Didcot, denies 10 counts alleging indecent assault, sexual intercourse with a child and buggery.

At the start of his trial at Oxford Crown Court yesterday prosecutor Matthew Walsh told the jury panel of seven women and five men that the abuse began when the child was aged 11 or 12.

He told jurors that instances of indecent assaults took place on multiple occasions and that this then moved on to sexual intercourse with the child.

Jurors were told the child was regularly made to perform sex acts as part of the abuse.

Mr Walsh said that on one occasion Purvis became aggressive and he forced himself on her.

Recalling that incident from the witness box the alleged victim said: "He didn't seem his usual self, he seemed a bit irritated and agitated on that occasion.

"I didn't want to do anything and he pulled me off the chair on to the floor, I was face down.

"I didn't want to do anything, I said that I didn't want to do anything. he just proceeded to pull down my leggings and knickers."

Describing the alleged act that followed she told jurors 'it hurt and I cried'.

Other instances of alleged abuse, she said, included Purvis taking her to secluded areas near Didcot including the Ridgeway before she performed sex acts on him.

She described the instances as 'routine' and said she thought they were boyfriend and girlfriend.

Speaking of how she felt at the time she said: "I had just started to become interested [in men] so obviously I found him attractive and he was older so it seemed exciting, that he took an interest.

"I suppose I must have known it was sex of some sort but I didn't know what. I thought he obviously liked me so that's why he was doing that."
