JURORS are deliberating in the trial of a man alleged to have 'grabbed' a child while out on his lunch break.

Christopher Gray is charged with one count of sexual assault of a child alleged to have taken place at London Road, Chipping Norton, on August 1 last year.

The 19-year old, of Farnborough Road, Birmingham, claims that the alleged assault was 'an everyday accident' and denies any wrong-doing.

Yesterday at Oxford Crown Court jurors heard closing arguments from prosecutor Miles Trigg and defence barrister Lyall Thompson.

The case was then summed up by presiding Judge Maria Lamb before the panel was sent out to begin their deliberations and to reach their verdict.

READ AGAIN: Christopher Gray denies 'grabbing' child while walking in Chipping Norton on his lunch break.

During the trial which began on Monday prosecutors have told jurors that Gray, a pedestrian, 'touched' his victim over her jeans.

Mr Trigg told the court: "The crown's case is this was not a brush, it was a grab.

"This was no accident, this was designed and intentional sexual touching."

Jurors were told that the incident happened at 1pm when the alleged victim was walking with another girl in Chipping Norton with the intention of getting a milkshake from Tickittyshake.

Noticing them, prosecutors claim, Gray walked in front before suddenly turning around 'grabbing' one of the girls, sexually assaulting her.

From the witness box Gray called the alleged assault a 'bump'.

He said: "I thought it was an everyday accident. I thought nothing of it after that until the next day."

He said he was holding a bottle in his left hand at the time and claimed he was on the phone with his right hand.

Gray went on to say that he would often phone his mother and that they were taking about 'housing' at the time of the incident.

The trial continues.
