MORE than 5,000 fish have been found dead in an Oxfordshire ditch - the third such incident in less than a week.

Environment Agency officials were tonight investigating the cause of the suspected pollution leak after the fish, mostly perch, were found in a Yarnton ditch by a member of the public on Sunday.

The same day, 250 dead stickleback and trout were discovered at Ginge Brook in Drayton, near Abingdon.

And on Thursday, another 100 fish were found dead in Shill Brook, near Carterton.

Officials do not believe the cases are linked, but warned local people to think before disposing of potentially harmful substances down drains.

Members of the public can report pollution incidents on 0800 807060.
