THERE were two big country dance parties at Oxford Town Hall on Saturday, March 16, 1962.
During the afternoon, 400 children aged mainly from nine to 12 and representing schools in and around Oxford enjoyed a programme of traditional dances.
In the evening it was the turn of the adults. The Mayor and Mayoress of Oxford were among the 300 people who took part in the dancing and watched a display of Morris dancing by three local "sides" - Oxford City, Headington Quarry and Oxford University Morris Men.
The party was organised by Oxford district of the English Folk Dance and Song Society.
Pictured are some of the 400 children dancing to 'Nick Nack Paddy Whack'.
