A FREE cash point will be slotted into the front of the new Sainsbury's shop, but only if plans are given the thumbs-up by Oxford City Council.

The supermarket giant will be under the Royal Oxford Hotel at the end of Frideswide Square, on the junction with St Hythe Street and Park End Street.

Plans have already been granted for the supermarket to sell booze from 7am until 11pm everyday.

But now Sainsbury's bosses have submitted revised plans which explain more about the shop and what it will look like in more detail.

Oxford Mail:

A similar 'Sainsbury's Local' has already been set up in Headington

If all goes to plan then the orange themed chain will join the other branches in the city centre, including the shop on Magdalen Street, St Aldgate's and the Westgate Centre.

In the plans, bosses have requested replacement of the existing shopfront, the installation of a ramp at the back of the shop, and an ATM.

Concious of the potential security threats, the developers have also requested permission to install a ram-raid bollard in front of the cash machine.

The plans explain that the ATM will be installed where there is a 'high level of natural surveillance'.

The ram-raid will also back it up by 'ensuring the safety of the customers and the ATM itself'.

The cash-point, which will be free to use, will also be 'kept in the style of Sainsbury's'.

Plans reveal that the cash point will be bright orange, matching the overall theme of the shop, that the plans describe as 'modest'.

Other pictures of the shop's new front show orange and brown signs which say 'Sainsbury's Local, oven baked bread, fresh fruit & veg, chilled beer & wine' and 'open everyday 7am - 11pm'.

In the plans, developers have said the signs will give passers-by 'greater clarity' on what's available in store.

Porperty consultants VSL said the supermarket giant has bought a 15-year lease.

But one resident, who lives on Osney Lane, left a public comment objecting to the plans.

The Dr wrote: "How are deliveries to be made to this store without causing significant congestion along Hythe Bridge Street?

"There are regularly issues with HGV's parked in Speedwell Street making deliveries to a similar business."
