Home-grown feature film Lady Godiva is to have its glitzy UK premiere in Oxford.

Director Vicky Jewson, from Radley, hopes to screen the romantic comedy on January 25 next year, before it opens in 15 cities nationwide.

There will be celebrity guests, a special pink carpet and a question and answer session with the cast.

The 21-year-old said: "It will be fantastic having the premiere in Oxford - a lot of the film was shot here and we have had so much local support. It's going to be a massive event."

Miss Jewson is also planning a series of promotional stunts in the weeks leading up to release.

These include sending 15 naked "Lady Godivas" on horseback through the cities where the film will be shown, giving horse and cart rides and screening the film trailer in the street.

The film was completed at the end of last year and Miss Jewson has spent the past few months showing it at industry festivals and trying to find a distributor.

She has now decided to launch her own distribution company, which she hopes will help promote local independent films.

She said: "I knew it would be hard to sell the film, but I didn't know it would be this hard.

"I've really gone for it and many people have said it's a really good achievement, but they still won't take the risk with it.

"I realised that to get the most out of the film I would need to self-distribute it."

Miss Jewson also plans to open a studio in the county.

She said: "Oxfordshire is a really beautiful place, that has so much to offer visually and story-wise.

"Because of its proximity to London, it already has some of the best film-making talent and it's just a matter of bringing the industry here."

She has just finished her next script, which she describes as an espionage thriller.

Filming is planned to start next summer.

Miss Jewson said the experience of making her first film had given her a broad insight into how the industry works.

She said: "If we had known three years ago all that we had in front of us, we would probably never have got where we have got - ignorance is bliss.

"But I haven't looked back since I shouted 'action!' for the first time."
