THE YELLOW weather warning issued for thunderstorms in parts of Oxfordshire has been extended. 

The Met Office warning will be in force from 3am until 11.59pm tomorrow, encompassing towns including Faringdon, Banbury, Abingdon, Charlbury, Witney and Chipping Norton.

Oxford, Didcot and Bicester are not currently covered, but are on the border of where forecasters predict thunder and lightning to hit.

A second yellow weather warning for thunder is in place all day on Wednesday, covering the northern tip of Oxfordshire.

On Tuesday night residents across Oxfordshire were treated to a spectacular lightning show, with forks piercing the sky and heavy rain downpours.

Many people said their homes 'shook' as explosive rumbles of thunder awoke residents.

The yellow warning for tomorrow states: "There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing dangerous conditions.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services."

It has also predicted potential road closures and power cuts.
