A SECOND suspected pollution outbreak has killed about 100 fish in an Oxfordshire brook.

The Environment Agency is investigating the deaths of trout and sticklebacks discovered at Ginge Brook in Drayton, near Abingdon, yesterday.

Last Thursday, another 100 fish were found dead floating on the surface of Shill Brook, near Carterton.

Experts do not believe the two cases are linked.

Senior environment officer Steve Wilkes said chemicals escaped into the brook but the suspected source of the pollution had been stopped.

Farmers have been advised to prevent livestock from drinking directly from the Ginge Brook, or River Thames, between Culham and Appleford for the next couple of days.

Public health is not believed to be at risk but the Health Protection Agency has been informed.

Anyone sees dead fish or pollution should ring Environment Agency hotline on 0800 807060.

Earlier this year, a wave of foam swept down the River Thames after it spilled into a tributary of the River Thames at Lechlade. Click here to read the story.
