Fundraisers at the Jennifer Trust for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) have organised a sponsored Fright Night to seek spooks in the depths of Oxford Castle.

Paranomal investigators and mediums will lead a tour of the historic site in New Road, accompanied by stories of chilling happenings on Saturday, November 10, starting at 9pm. All proceeds from the charity event will benefit the work of the Jennifer Trust, which is the only national charity in the UK dedicated to supporting people affected by SMA. Allison Pratt, community fundraiser for the trust, said: "This event is one of the most unusual we have organised and I hope that local people will want to get involved.

"I have heard of stories from Oxford Castle about the ghost of Mary Bland who was hanged and has been spotted walking through the grounds - as well as stories of strange white mists appearing to bodyguards."

SMA is a genetically inherited muscle-wasting condition that as many as one in 40 people carry the affected gene for. In its severest form it is the biggest genetic cause of infant death in the UK. There is currently no treatment or cure.

There are only a limited number of places available for the event. For further information visit www.jtsma.org.uk or call 0800 9753100.
