Banbury's Spiceball Sports Centre is now fully open after the completion of work to repair damage caused by July's floods.

The main sports hall was the last area of the centre to get the all-clear. On July 21, the lower levels of Spiceball - swimming pools, squash courts, creche and main hall - were flooded by 4ft of water, forcing the centre to close.

A phased reopening began with the kinetika gym on August 14, followed by the pool, sauna, steam room and, finally, the squash courts and the main hall. Spiceball general manager Glen Staite Loveridge said: "We're delighted to announce the reopening of the whole site.

"The timing is perfect because we're able to offer our normal programme in time for the October half-term holiday.

"Sporting activities such as five-a-side football and badminton are able to resume."

He added: "We are extremely proud of our centre. We have a beautiful new sauna and steam facility complete with mood lighting.

"The squash courts and main hall have all been refloored. Local schools have resumed swimming lessons and our swim academy reopened in September."
