A CRASH damaged the central barriers on the M40 and caused the closure of two lanes.

Traffic was severe on the northbound carriageway this evening, shortly before the Wendlebury Interchange near Bicester.

At the height of the disruption between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, drivers faced delays of up to 90 minutes and almost six miles of congestion.

Both lanes have since been reopened and queues have cleared, however.

One video posted on Twitter showed at least three fire engines and two police cars on the scene.
