CUSTOMERS have praised changes at a village pub after it was taken over by new owners.

The Evenlode, located next to the A40 in Eynsham, was bought by Prospect Pubs & Bars for £1.75m, with David Keogh taking over as general manager.

Feedback on TripAdvisor has been largely positive since the takeover.

The latest review, posted on Sunday, said: "The new management haven't been in for long but it's great to see it going strong.

"Everyone loved their food and the staff and owners were so friendly and welcoming. I will definitely come again.

"I had a chicken burger and it was beautiful, crispy and tasty. Others in our party hade bubble and squeek, pasta and steak and everyone had good things to say."

Another review last week said: "The service was first class but not over the top, and the food was lovely. Good size portions, but not over the top, and cooked just right with a light and crispy batter on the fish."

One happy customer added: "Had a lovely al-fresco lunch with a friend this week, staff were attentive, and the food and service was excellent, I am very happy to recommend this restaurant to anyone.

"Having eaten here in the past it has always been good, I understand the new owners may be expanding the restaurant with more accommodation - it's a prime location, glad it was not sold for flats."

A minority of diners made complaints but Mr Keogh, responding via TripAdvisor, said any teething issues will be 'ironed out very quickly.'

The pub is set to undergo a £1.2m revamp as part of a host of changes.

It will have its dining and events space enhanced while 24 boutique, en-suite bedrooms will be added.

It is also introducing a new menu, featuring pub classics and vegan options.

Mr Keogh said: “We’ve been really blown away by the warm welcome we’ve received since arriving at The Evenlode and can’t wait to put this pub firmly back on the map.

"Feedback from the locals has been exceptionally positive so far, and I’m really looking forward to building our reputation as a top-notch pub that provides affordable, great tasting food for all the family."

To celebrate, the pub is offering 30 per cent off food until August 31 to Evenlode Club members. Visit
