A CANCER support centre is hosting its own summer festival this weekend in Launton and needs your help to make it a success.

Martial arts and cheerleading displays will feature at the festival on Saturday organised by The Hummingbird Centre, based in Launton near Bicester.

There will also be a host of local stalls, activities and shows including Bicester 2507 ATC Band, a dog show, horse and cart rides, steam engine rides, sea jewellery, darts, Wild West photos and lots more.

The organiser of the festival, Fiona Wastie, used the centre when she was recovering from lung cancer.

As a way of thanking the centre and its team, she has been organising its events to raise money so that it can continue to provide free therapies and activities.

But with this year’s summer festival, she is calling on local people to help out.

She wants to add a bottle stall to the line-up of activities and is looking for donations.

To make it work she needs more than 300 bottled items, which can include anything from vinegar, water, bubble bath, infused oil, to fizzy pop, wine, spirits, shampoo and conditioner.

Ms Wastie said: “The importance of this event for me is bringing the whole community together.

“It’s not all about profit, it’s about having a good family day out. Over the next four years our plan is to fill the field with stalls and activities and ensure it becomes a regular event on the Bicester summer calendar.”

It takes place at Launton Sports and Social Club on Bicester Road from 12pm to 4.30pm.
