FIREFIGHTERS were scrambled after a car and van collided on the A41 in Blackthorn.

The vehicles crashed close to the railway over the main road in and out of the village, near Bicester, yesterday.

Crews from Bicester and Kidlington rushed to the scene and were faced with rescuing a casualty from the car after they had sustained back injuries.

Firefighters had to remove the doors and the posts between them to make space for the rescue.

South Central Ambulance Service and Thames Valley Police were also on the scene, and the A41 was closed for about 75minutes.
