AN Oxfordshire council is aiming to set up a new committee in an effort to ease the climate crisis, with its leader saying it is 'determined to take action'.

Vale of White Horse District Council declared a climate emergency in February and now want a new advisory committee 'to ensure the council meets its responsibilities towards this international issue'.

The planned committee would be politically balanced and meet in public to advise the council’s cabinet on environmental issues.

Details are yet to be finalised, but a council meeting will consider the plan on Wednesday, July 17, at The Beacon, Wantage.

Councillor Emily Smith, leader of Vale of White Horse District Council, said: “Having declared a Climate Emergency, the new Vale Cabinet is determined to take action.

"If approved by my fellow councillors, this committee will provide a focus for identifying ways council services across the Vale can contribute to carbon reduction targets and minimise the damage to our environment.”
