CONSTRUCTION of a 66-home scheme on a Second World War airfield has begun.
Builders moved onto the £25m Hayfield Green site on the former Stanton Harcourt Airfield last month.
Winston Churchill flew from the airfield for the 1943 Casablanca Conference, while it was the starting point for a bomber raid on the German battleship Scharnhorst.

Other historic structures to be refurbished will be the original water tower, three blast shelters and an underground air raid shelter, with new information boards to explain their heritage.
A landscaped pattern of walking routes will weave along the airfield's former taxiway.
