WITNEY Library will close later this week to undergo major refurbishment.

The Oxfordshire County Council library will close from 4.30pm on Saturday until 9am on Monday, December 10, while the work is carried out.

When the library reopens with a new layout, more than 1,000 new books will have been added to the existing stock.

Oxfordshire county councillor Jim Couchman, cabinet member for social and community services, said: "I feel sure that Witney people will be delighted with the result.

"By using the space better we are increasing the stock and at the same creating a more open atmosphere, with plenty of comfortable chairs and brand new display units."

A mobile library service will be on offer near to the library from Monday, November 5, six mornings a week, 9.30am to 1.30pm.

Staff will be available to take calls from customers for renewals from 8.30am to 5pm on 01993 703659.

Out of hours customers can renew books via www.oxfordshire.gov.uk, or through the 24 hour hotline 0845 1202811 - or at any other Oxfordshire County Council library.
