THAMES Valley Police has warned people not to become 'complacent' about home security because of the warmer weather.

The force has put out advice urging people to keep windows and doors locked when not in the house, even if they are in the garden, to stop opportunistic burglars.

If people want to leave windows open while sleeping, it advised fitting window restrictors so they cannot be fully opened.

It also cautioned people to ensure all barbecue, garden equipment and tools were securely locked up in a shed and out of sight.
