Bathroom specialists Bathstore has collapsed, putting more than 500 jobs at risk across the country.

The company has one of its 135 stores in the retail park off Sandy Lane, near Blackbird Leys.

Administrators from BDO have said the company is continuing to trade as normal for now as they hope to soon find a buyer.

Ryan Grant, BDO restructuring partner, said: "Despite significant investment into the business over the past five years, Bathstore has struggled to overcome the well-documented challenges facing the UK retail sector.

"The appointment was made after several months of difficult trading, and the failure of ongoing talks to find a buyer for the business."

Of the 529 staff, 405 of them are store workers while the other 124 work at the head office in Welwyn Garden City.

Customers should receive an e-mail about information for outstanding orders but can check the website if they are unsure.

Bathstore is the latest retail company to be hit by a harsh retail market following the almost-collapse of HMV earlier this year, which was able to be saved by Sunrise Records, and the collapse of Toys R Us and Maplin last year.
