DELAYS for road users which are likely to roll over a fortnight are expected to begin next week in a busy part of the city centre.

Thames Water has said it will need to close part of Hythe Bridge Street from Monday until Friday and will need to work between 8am until 5pm.

That will affect one of the busiest stretches into the western part of the city centre and much of the traffic from Botley Road. Diversions around Frideswide Square and Park End Street will be in place.

The work there will affect the part of Hythe Bridge Street from Castle Mill Stream to the George Street junction.

Disruption will continue into a second week when gasworks are undertaken in part of Worcester Street from Monday, July 8 until Sunday, July 14. That work will be completed by SGN.

That will close part of Worcester Street from George Street Mews to New Road, close to the Worcester Street car park. Diversions will be in place around Park End Street, into Frideswide Square and into Hythe Bridge Street.

In a statement on the roadworks.org website, SGN states: “We’re upgrading our gas network to ensure local homes and businesses continue to enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.”
