RESIDENTS have two weeks to trigger an election for a new councillor in Witney Town Council's north ward.

The seat has been vacant since ex-councillor, Trevor License, resigned earlier this month over allegations that he sent lewd messages to a woman who asked him for housing help.

Ten voters must write to the head of the paid service at West Oxfordshire District Council by July 8 to ensure an election takes place.

If this happens, a vote would be held by September 10. Otherwise, a new member will be chosen by the council through co-option.
