NO one was hurt in a vehicle fire near Wantage on Sunday, the fire service have said.

The incident on Baydon Road, near Lambourne, left a vehicle – which owners had previously reported a fault with – badly burnt out.

Oxfordshire County Council Fire and Rescue crew were called to the incident at 1.40pm and extinguished the fire using breathing apparatus and a high-pressure hose reel jet.

Fire fighters also used a thermal imaging camera to identify hotspots and used hydraulic spreaders equipment to open the bonnet and the boot of the car to ensure that the fire was fully extinguished.

The cause of the fire is so far unknown but the service reminded the public to get any car faults checked 'as soon as possible'.

Incident Commander, Crew Manager Stuart Mcdowall from Wantage Fire Station said: “Firefighters worked very efficiently on arrival to extinguish the fire, and we were all grateful that nobody was injured.

"The owners of the vehicle had reported a fault with the car. We would remind people that when issues occur with vehicles and equipment to get these checked as soon as possible.”
