A SPECIAL school in Blackbird Leys has demonstrated 'deep commitment' to pupils' development, Ofsted has said.

Mabel Prichard School has been rated 'good' by the regulator, following an inspection last month.

A new report said: "Staff are deeply committed to ensuring that pupils feel safe, are well cared for and achieve well.

"Parents and carers are delighted to see how rapidly their children learn to communicate and become confident."

The school teaches 100 pupils aged 2-19, who have various special needs and disabilities.

Ofsted said headteacher Lucy Wawrzyniak has been 'relentless' in her drive to make improvements.

Inspectors added: "Caring relationships feature strongly across the school.

"Behaviour in lessons and at break is managed effectively because staff have a detailed understanding of pupils’ needs.

"Pupils like and respect each other and they make friends without any boundaries of disability, ethnicity or gender."

They said students leaving the school's sixth form were prepared well for further education or employment, and some were able to live with an element of independence thanks to the skills the school had equipped them with.

The school was last visited by Ofsted for a short inspection last year, when it was also rated 'good.'
