ARMED with high vis jackets and litter picks, people across Bicester took part in a community clean up.

The project, run by The Midcounties Co-operative, was held last Wednesday and saw people - including children - tidy up Bure Park Nature Reserve.

Representatives from local charity, Bicester Green, and teachers and students from local schools joined in with the clean.

The chain has organised 20 clean-ups across Oxfordshire and other neighbouring counties.

It says it is committed to enhancing its community and its colleagues in Oxfordshire have already completed just under 600 hours of volunteering in 2019.

As well as the clean-ups, it is encouraging people to make an eco-friendly pledge that will make a long-lasting impact as part of its 1Change campaign.

Mike Pickering, CSR manager at The Midcounties Co-operative, said: “The litter picks for World Environment Day were a great team effort and showed what can be achieved if we work together. They also highlighted how big of a problem littering is in Oxfordshire.

“As part of our 1Change campaign we are encouraging people to make one small change to improve the environment, for example by taking steps to reduce plastic waste or by attending a litter pick in their local area. We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who got involved and helped us clean up our local community.”
